Description
Indication & Scope
Torasemide Injection is a prescription loop diuretic indicated for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, and renal disease in patients requiring parenteral therapy or unable to take oral medication. It may also be used as an adjunct in the treatment of hypertension. Torasemide produces potent and sustained diuresis by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the loop of Henle, reducing fluid overload and improving symptoms of congestion.
- Mechanism: Inhibits the Na+-K+-2Cl− cotransporter (NKCC2) in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, increasing urinary excretion of sodium and water.
- Drug class: Loop diuretic.
- Clinical use: Treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, hepatic cirrhosis, or renal disease requiring intravenous therapy; adjunctive treatment of hypertension.
