Indication & Scope
Nimotop® is a prescription calcium channel blocker indicated for the prevention and treatment of cerebral vasospasm-related ischemic neurological deficits following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. It may also be used during the recovery phase of acute cerebrovascular disorders to improve cerebral circulation.
- Mechanism: Nimodipine selectively blocks L-type calcium channels in cerebral vascular smooth muscle, reducing calcium influx, relaxing cerebral arteries, improving cerebral blood flow, and reducing ischemic brain injury caused by vasospasm.
- Drug class: Dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB).
- Clinical use: Prevention and treatment of delayed cerebral ischemia caused by cerebral vasospasm after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage under hospital monitoring.
