Indication & Scope
Tobradex®/DianShu® is a prescription ophthalmic suspension indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions where superficial bacterial infection or the risk of bacterial infection exists.
- Mechanism: Tobramycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, while dexamethasone is a potent corticosteroid that suppresses inflammatory responses, reduces edema, and relieves ocular irritation.
- Drug class: Aminoglycoside antibiotic and corticosteroid combination ophthalmic suspension.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: Instill 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4–6 hours. During the first 24–48 hours of severe inflammation, the dosage may be increased to 1–2 drops every 2 hours, then gradually reduced as the condition improves.
Time: Shake well before each use. Continue treatment as prescribed by the physician and taper the dosing frequency gradually rather than stopping abruptly.
Instructions for use: For ophthalmic use only. Shake the bottle well before use, avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, remove contact lenses before instillation, and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Do not use if the suspension becomes discolored or contaminated.
Interaction: Concomitant use with other ophthalmic corticosteroids or aminoglycoside antibiotics may increase the risk of adverse reactions. Prolonged use with corticosteroids may elevate intraocular pressure and increase the risk of glaucoma, cataracts, or secondary ocular infections.
Side effects: Common adverse reactions include temporary blurred vision, eye irritation, burning or stinging, foreign body sensation, and conjunctival redness. Prolonged use may cause increased intraocular pressure, steroid-induced glaucoma, cataract formation, delayed corneal healing, secondary fungal infection, and rarely allergic reactions such as rash or itching.

Can I wear contact lenses while using Tobradex® (tobramycin and dexamethasone)?
Soft contact lenses should be removed before instillation because the preservative (benzalkonium chloride) can be absorbed by the lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
Can Tobradex® (tobramycin and dexamethasone) be used for viral or fungal eye infections?
No. Tobradex is contraindicated in viral (such as herpes simplex keratitis), fungal, mycobacterial, and untreated parasitic eye infections.
