Indication & Scope

Trajenta® is a prescription dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It may be used as monotherapy in patients who cannot tolerate metformin or for whom metformin is contraindicated, and in combination with other antihyperglycemic agents such as metformin or metformin plus a sulfonylurea.

Mechanism: Linagliptin selectively inhibits DPP-4, increasing endogenous incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), thereby enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion and reducing glucagon release.
Drug class: DPP-4 inhibitor.
Clinical use: Glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as monotherapy or combination therapy.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: 5 mg orally once daily, with or without food.

Time: Take at the same time each day.

Instructions for use: Swallow the tablet whole. Continue diet and exercise during treatment. No dose adjustment is required for mild or moderate renal or hepatic impairment.

Interaction: Rifampicin and other strong CYP3A4/P-glycoprotein inducers may reduce linagliptin exposure. The risk of hypoglycemia may increase when combined with sulfonylureas.

Side effects: Common adverse reactions include nasopharyngitis, cough, diarrhea, headache, hypersensitivity reactions, and hypoglycemia when used with insulin secretagogues.
