Description
Indication & Scope
BRILINTA® is a prescription oral P2Y12 receptor antagonist indicated, in combination with low-dose aspirin, to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) or a history of myocardial infarction. It is also indicated to reduce the risk of stent thrombosis in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
- Mechanism: Ticagrelor is a reversible P2Y12 receptor antagonist that inhibits ADP-mediated platelet activation and aggregation, reducing thrombus formation.
- Drug class: Oral P2Y12 receptor antagonist (antiplatelet agent).
- Clinical use: Treatment of acute coronary syndrome, secondary prevention after myocardial infarction, and prevention of thrombotic events following PCI.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: The recommended loading dose is 180 mg once, followed by 90 mg twice daily. BRILINTA® should be administered together with low-dose aspirin (75–100 mg daily) unless otherwise directed.
Time: Take twice daily, with or without food, at approximately the same times each day.
Instructions for use: Swallow tablets whole with water. Continue treatment for up to 12 months after ACS, or as recommended by the physician. Do not discontinue therapy without medical advice because premature discontinuation increases thrombotic risk.
Interaction: Avoid concomitant use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, clarithromycin) or strong CYP3A4 inducers (e.g., rifampin). Use caution with anticoagulants, NSAIDs, and other antiplatelet agents due to increased bleeding risk.
Side effects: Common adverse reactions include bleeding, dyspnea, bruising, epistaxis, headache, dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea. Serious bleeding, including intracranial hemorrhage, may rarely occur.
