 Indication & Scope

Patanol® is a prescription antihistamine ophthalmic solution indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms associated with allergic conjunctivitis, including ocular itching, conjunctival hyperemia, and edema.

  • Mechanism: Olopatadine is a selective histamine H1-receptor antagonist with mast cell stabilizing activity. It inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators from mast cells and blocks histamine-mediated allergic responses, thereby reducing ocular itching, redness, and swelling.
  • Drug class: Antihistamine; Mast cell stabilizer.
  • Clinical use: Relief of ocular signs and symptoms associated with allergic conjunctivitis.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Instill 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) twice daily.

 

Time: Administer twice daily with an interval of approximately 6–8 hours between doses. Use according to the physician’s recommendation and clinical response.

 

Instructions for use: For ophthalmic use only. After administration, gently close the eyelids or press the inner corner of the eye near the tear duct for approximately 2 minutes to reduce systemic absorption. When used with other ophthalmic medications, allow an interval of at least 5 minutes between applications, and apply ophthalmic ointments last. Remove soft contact lenses before instillation and wait at least 15 minutes before reinsertion.

 

Interaction: No clinically significant drug interactions have been identified with topical ophthalmic administration. When used with other eye preparations, administer each medication separately with an appropriate interval.

 

Side effects: Common adverse reactions include headache, blurred vision, eye burning or stinging, dry eye, foreign body sensation, conjunctival hyperemia, eyelid edema, ocular itching, and keratitis. Other reported reactions include fatigue, flu-like symptoms, nausea, pharyngitis, rhinitis, taste disturbance, rash, and rare severe allergic reactions.
