Description
Indication & Scope
JiJia®/APROVEL® (Irbesartan Tablets) is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and for the treatment of hypertension associated with type 2 diabetic nephropathy. Irbesartan lowers blood pressure by selectively blocking angiotensin II at the AT1 receptor and may provide renal protection in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension.
- Mechanism: Irbesartan selectively blocks angiotensin II binding to the AT1 receptor, reducing vasoconstriction and aldosterone-mediated effects, thereby lowering peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure. It also reduces intraglomerular pressure and urinary protein excretion.
- Drug class: Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB); antihypertensive agent.
- Clinical use: First-line or combination treatment for essential hypertension and antihypertensive/renal-protective treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes and diabetic nephropathy.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: For essential hypertension, the usual initial and maintenance dose is 150 mg once daily. If blood pressure control is inadequate, the dose may be increased to 300 mg once daily. For hypertension associated with type 2 diabetic nephropathy, the recommended initial dose is 150 mg once daily, which may be increased to 300 mg once daily as maintenance therapy.
Time: May be taken with or without food.
Instructions for use: Take orally once daily with or without food. Swallow the tablet with water. For hypertension, the usual starting dose is 150 mg once daily, which may be increased to 300 mg once daily if needed. For hypertension associated with type 2 diabetic nephropathy, the recommended dose is 150 mg once daily, increased to 300 mg once daily as maintenance therapy when appropriate. Follow the prescribed dosage and do not discontinue treatment without medical advice.
Interaction: Concomitant use with potassium supplements, potassium-sparing diuretics, or other medicines that increase serum potassium may increase the risk of hyperkalemia. Combination with aliskiren should generally be avoided in patients with diabetes.
Side effects: Possible adverse reactions include dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, musculoskeletal pain, hyperkalemia, rash, and, rarely, angioedema or abnormal liver function.

FAQ
What is JiJia®/APROVEL® (Irbesartan Tablets)?
JiJia®/APROVEL® (Irbesartan Tablets) is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) used primarily to lower blood pressure and to treat hypertension associated with type 2 diabetic nephropathy.
How does JiJia®/APROVEL® (Irbesartan Tablets) lower blood pressure?
JiJia®/APROVEL® (Irbesartan Tablets) selectively blocks the AT1 receptor, preventing the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-promoting effects of angiotensin II. This relaxes blood vessels and reduces blood pressure.
What is the usual dose?
The usual starting dose for adults is 150 mg once daily. Depending on blood pressure response and the clinical indication, the dose may be increased to 300 mg once daily.
What should be monitored during treatment?
Patients at risk of renal impairment or hyperkalemia should have renal function and serum potassium monitored periodically, particularly when irbesartan is combined with other medicines affecting the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system.
