Indication & Scope

MST Continus® is a prescription opioid analgesic indicated for the management of severe chronic pain requiring continuous, around-the-clock opioid treatment, including cancer pain and other persistent severe pain conditions.

Mechanism: Morphine sulfate activates central μ-opioid receptors, inhibiting pain transmission and altering pain perception to provide long-lasting analgesia.
Drug class: Opioid analgesic; μ-opioid receptor agonist.
Clinical use: Long-term management of severe cancer pain and other severe chronic pain requiring continuous opioid therapy.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: The initial dose for opioid-naïve adults is generally 30 mg every 12 hours. The dose should be individually titrated according to pain severity, previous opioid use, and clinical response.

Time: Take orally every 12 hours. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Instructions for use: Do not crush, chew, split, or dissolve the tablet, as this may cause rapid release of morphine and life-threatening respiratory depression. Continue treatment only under medical supervision and taper gradually when discontinuing.

Interaction: Avoid concomitant use with alcohol, benzodiazepines, MAO inhibitors, other opioids, and other central nervous system depressants due to an increased risk of profound sedation and respiratory depression.

Side effects: Common adverse reactions include constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, and sweating. Serious adverse reactions include respiratory depression, hypotension, opioid dependence, severe allergic reactions, and paralytic ileus.
