Description
Indication & Scope
HaiFuKang® Favipiravir Tablets provides oral treatment for adult patients with novel or recurrent seasonal influenza A and B virus infections that are unresponsive or intolerant to conventional anti-influenza drugs. It is also used for adjuvant oral antiviral treatment of multiple severe RNA viral infections under clinical medical supervision.
- Mechanism: Favipiravir is a broad-spectrum RNA virus polymerase inhibitor prodrug. After oral absorption, it is intracellularly converted into active favipiravir ribofuranosyl triphosphate. The active metabolite selectively competes for viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, blocks viral RNA replication, transcription and gene assembly, and inhibits proliferation and spread of various RNA viruses including influenza virus.
- Drug class: Broad-spectrum oral RNA virus polymerase inhibitor; synthetic small-molecule anti-RNA-viral agent; targeted anti-influenza therapeutic tablet.
- Clinical use: Rescue antiviral treatment for conventional drug-resistant and refractory seasonal influenza infection in adults. It significantly shortens influenza fever duration, reduces viral load, alleviates systemic influenza symptoms, and lowers the risk of severe influenza complications.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: Adult standard 5-day treatment regimen: 1600 mg orally twice daily on the first day; adjusted to 600 mg orally twice daily from day 2 to day 5 continuously. Dose adjustment is required for patients with moderate to severe liver or renal insufficiency.
Time: Oral administration with plain water, taken regularly twice a day, can be administered with or without meals with no strict dietary restrictions.
Instructions for use: Swallow whole tablets completely without crushing or chewing. Complete the full 5-day standardized treatment course even if symptoms relieve early to prevent viral recurrence and drug resistance. Monitor liver and renal function indicators throughout treatment.
Interaction: Concurrent liver-metabolized drugs may increase liver metabolic burden and require liver function monitoring. No obvious antagonistic or superposition toxicity with common antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and symptomatic respiratory drugs. Avoid combined use with other broad-spectrum antiviral agents to prevent excessive gastrointestinal and hepatic adverse reactions.
Side effects:
1. Common mild adverse reactions: mild nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, transient elevated liver transaminase, mild headache and fatigue.
2. Severe rare adverse reactions: severe liver function injury, severe persistent gastrointestinal adverse reactions, rare hematologic cell count abnormalities.

FAQ
What core mechanistic difference distinguishes Favipiravir Tablets from traditional oseltamivir anti-influenza drugs?
It inhibits viral RNA polymerase to block viral gene replication with a broader antiviral spectrum, while traditional anti-influenza drugs only target neuraminidase and have limited efficacy for drug-resistant influenza strains.
Why is strict contraception mandatory for all adult patients during Favipiravir Tablets medication period?
The drug has potential embryonic teratogenic risk, so pregnancy is strictly prohibited during treatment and within one week after drug withdrawal to avoid fetal developmental abnormalities.
What kind of influenza patients are most suitable for Favipiravir Tablets oral antiviral treatment?
Adult patients with refractory, recurrent or drug-resistant influenza A/B infection.
What routine safety monitoring needs to be implemented during Favipiravir Tablets oral antiviral treatment?
Regular liver and renal function testing is required throughout the treatment course to detect and avoid drug-induced liver and kidney damage in a timely manner.
