jiulian allopurinol tablet 0

Description

 Indication & Scope

JiuLian® (Allopurinol Tablets) are indicated for the long-term management of hyperuricemia associated with primary or secondary gout, including recurrent or chronic gout, gouty tophi, and uric acid nephrolithiasis. By reducing uric acid production, allopurinol helps maintain serum urate levels below the target range and prevent further deposition of urate crystals.

  • Mechanism: Allopurinol and its active metabolite oxypurinol inhibit xanthine oxidase, reducing the conversion of hypoxanthine and xanthine to uric acid and thereby lowering serum and urinary uric acid levels.
  • Drug class: Xanthine oxidase inhibitor.
  • Clinical use: Long-term urate-lowering therapy for hyperuricemia and gout, particularly in patients with recurrent gout attacks, tophi, uric acid stones, or other indications for sustained urate reduction.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Start at 50–100 mg once daily and gradually increase according to serum urate response and tolerability. Typical maintenance dose is 200–300 mg/day.

Time: Take orally after meals with adequate water.

Instructions for use: Start with a low dose and titrate gradually. Continue treatment during an acute gout attack if already receiving allopurinol; do not initiate urate-lowering therapy solely to treat acute pain.

Interaction: Allopurinol markedly increases exposure to azathioprine and mercaptopurine and their doses generally require substantial reduction. Thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypersensitivity. Concomitant ampicillin or amoxicillin may increase the incidence of rash.

Side effects: Common reactions include rash, gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhea, and elevated liver enzymes. Serious hypersensitivity reactions, including Stevens–Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and DRESS, may occur.
