Description
Indication & Scope
LIPANTHYL® is a prescription fibric acid derivative indicated, as an adjunct to diet, for the treatment of adult patients with primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and severe hypertriglyceridemia when dietary measures alone are insufficient. It is particularly effective in lowering triglyceride levels and reducing the risk of hypertriglyceridemia-associated pancreatitis.
- Mechanism: Fenofibrate activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPAR-α), increasing lipolysis and clearance of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins while reducing triglycerides and LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol.
- Drug class: Fibric acid derivative (PPAR-α agonist).
- Clinical use: Treatment of hypertriglyceridemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and hypercholesterolemia in adults, especially patients with diabetic dyslipidemia.
