 Indication & Scope

Lincomycin Hydrochloride Tablets is a prescription lincosamide antibiotic indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria and anaerobic bacteria. It is used for respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, gynecological infections, pelvic infections, and intra-abdominal infections. It may also serve as an alternative therapy for patients with penicillin indications who are allergic or intolerant to penicillin.

  • Mechanism: Lincomycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and bacterial growth.
  • Drug class: Lincosamide antibiotic.
  • Clinical use: Treatment of susceptible staphylococcal, streptococcal, pneumococcal, and anaerobic bacterial infections, especially when β-lactam antibiotics cannot be used.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Adults generally receive 1.5–2 g daily, divided into 3–4 doses. Children receive 30–60 mg/kg/day divided into several doses.

 

Time: Take on an empty stomach (1 hour before meals or 2 hours after meals) to improve absorption. Treatment duration depends on infection type.

 

Instructions for use: Administer orally with water. Dose adjustment and monitoring may be required in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment.

 

Interaction: Avoid concurrent use with neuromuscular blocking agents. Separate administration from adsorbent antidiarrheal agents and probiotics.

 

Side effects: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, rash, itching, elevated liver enzymes, and allergic reactions.
