Description

 Indication & Scope

EYLEA®/ZhuoChuMing® is a prescription vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitor indicated for the treatment of neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema (DME), macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO), and myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV) in adults.

  • Mechanism: Aflibercept is a recombinant fusion protein that acts as a soluble decoy receptor by binding VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF), thereby inhibiting angiogenesis, reducing vascular permeability, and preventing abnormal neovascularization.
  • Drug class: Anti-VEGF agent; VEGF inhibitor.
  • Clinical use: Treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion, and myopic choroidal neovascularization in adults.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: The recommended dosing regimen depends on the indication. For neovascular (wet) AMD, administer 2 mg every 4 weeks for the first three doses, followed by one injection every 8 weeks or according to clinical evaluation. For DME and macular edema secondary to RVO, administer monthly for the initial five doses before extending the treatment interval based on disease activity. For myopic choroidal neovascularization, administer as needed according to clinical response.

Time: Treatment intervals should be individualized based on visual acuity and retinal anatomical findings, with regular ophthalmic monitoring throughout therapy.

Instructions for use: For intravitreal use only. Each vial is intended for single-eye, single-use administration. Perform the injection under aseptic conditions using appropriate anesthesia and antisepsis. Discard any unused solution immediately after injection. If other intravitreal therapies are required, an adequate interval between treatments should be maintained according to clinical practice.

Interaction: No clinically significant systemic drug interactions have been established. The safety and efficacy of concurrent administration with other intravitreal anti-VEGF agents have not been established and are generally not recommended.

Side effects: Common adverse reactions include conjunctival hemorrhage, eye pain, vitreous floaters, transient increased intraocular pressure, cataract progression, and corneal abrasion. Serious but uncommon adverse reactions include endophthalmitis, retinal detachment, retinal pigment epithelial tear, and severe vision loss. Systemic adverse events such as headache, nasopharyngitis, hypertension, arterial thromboembolic events, hypersensitivity reactions, and bleeding events have been reported rarely.
