dongzean olorigliflozin capsules type 2 diabetes 20mg

Description

 Indication & Scope

DongZeAn® Olorigliflozin Capsules provides chronic oral glycemic control for adult patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus, for reduction of fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels.

  • Mechanism: Novel selective sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitor. It blocks SGLT-2 protein in renal proximal tubules, prevents reabsorption of filtered blood glucose back into systemic circulation, induces sustained urinary glucose excretion (glycosuria) to lower plasma glucose independent of pancreatic insulin secretion; delivers mild diuretic and weight-lowering secondary benefits.
  • Drug class: Oral SGLT-2 small-molecule hypoglycemic capsule / Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitor anti-diabetic agent.
  • Clinical use: Monotherapy for newly diagnosed mild-to-moderate type 2 diabetes adults; combination therapy with metformin, sulfonylureas or GLP-1 agonists for synergistic glycemic reduction in uncontrolled diabetes patients.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Standard starting maintenance dose 10 mg oral once daily; titrate up to maximum 25 mg once daily if glycemic targets remain unmet after 4 weeks of initial dosing.

Time: Single daily oral capsule taken before the first meal of the day, consistent morning dosing recommended to maximize urinary glucose excretion window.

Instructions for use: Swallow enteric capsule whole with plain water without breaking or chewing; monitor renal function quarterly throughout chronic therapy; educate patients on euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis symptom recognition even with normal blood glucose readings; maintain adequate daily oral hydration to reduce genital mycotic infection risk.

Interaction: Concurrent insulin or sulfonylurea anti-diabetic agents increase hypoglycemia risk; loop diuretics amplify volume depletion and acute kidney injury risk; SGLT-2 inhibitor additive effects with other glycosuric agents raise genital infection risk.

Side effects:

1. Common mild adverse reactions: genital fungal infection, increased urinary frequency, mild orthostatic hypotension, weight loss, polyuria.

2. Rare severe life-threatening risks: euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis, acute kidney injury, Fournier’s gangrene of the perineum, lower limb amputations.

FAQ

What renal tubular glucose transporter protein is selectively inhibited by Olorigliflozin Capsules to induce therapeutic glycosuria in type 2 diabetes?

Olorigliflozin Capsules blocks sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) in kidney proximal tubule epithelial cells.

What minimum renal function threshold (eGFR) is required to qualify patients for Olorigliflozin Capsules treatment?

Patients must maintain estimated glomerular filtration rate ≥45 mL/min/1.73m² to receive this SGLT-2 inhibitor capsule.

Why is consistent adequate daily hydration a critical patient education requirement during chronic Olorigliflozin Capsules therapy?

The drug induces osmotic diuresis via glycosuria; insufficient fluid intake raises acute kidney injury and orthostatic hypotension risk.

What core mechanistic advantage of SGLT-2 inhibitors differentiates Olorigliflozin Capsules from insulin secretagogue anti-diabetic medications?

Its glucose-lowering action is fully insulin-independent, relying solely on renal glucose excretion rather than pancreatic beta-cell insulin release stimulation.
