Indication & Scope

GuTe® (Ornidazole Dispersible Tablets) is a prescription nitroimidazole antimicrobial indicated for the treatment of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoal infections, including trichomoniasis, giardiasis, and intestinal or hepatic amoebiasis. It is also used for the prevention and treatment of postoperative anaerobic infections.

Mechanism: Ornidazole is reduced under anaerobic conditions to reactive intermediates that damage microbial DNA, resulting in the death of susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.
Drug class: Nitroimidazole antimicrobial.
Clinical use: Anaerobic bacterial infections, trichomoniasis, giardiasis, amoebiasis, and prevention or treatment of postoperative anaerobic infections.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: For anaerobic infections, adults generally take 0.5 g every 12 hours. Dosage varies according to the infection.

Time: Treatment duration varies according to the infection. For trichomoniasis, adults may take 1.5 g as a single dose or 0.5 g twice daily for 5 days.

Instructions for use: Swallow the tablet or disperse it in a small amount of water before taking. Avoid alcohol and alcohol-containing beverages during treatment and for 7 days after discontinuation.

Interaction: May enhance the anticoagulant effect of coumarin anticoagulants and interact with other medicines. Consult a physician or pharmacist before concomitant use.

Side effects: Possible adverse reactions include nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal discomfort, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, tremor, numbness, ataxia, rash, and other hypersensitivity reactions.
