Indication & Scope
BASEN® is a prescription alpha-glucosidase inhibitor indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve postprandial glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It may be used as monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin when postprandial blood glucose remains inadequately controlled. It is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus, diabetic ketoacidosis, or diabetic coma.
- Mechanism: Voglibose competitively inhibits intestinal alpha-glucosidase enzymes, delaying the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates and reducing postprandial blood glucose excursions.

- Clinical Use: Improvement of postprandial glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus as monotherapy or combination therapy.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: The recommended dose is 0.2 mg three times daily before meals. If necessary, the dose may be increased to 0.3 mg three times daily according to clinical response.
Time: Take immediately before each main meal.
Instructions for use: Swallow the tablet with water before meals. If a meal is skipped, skip the corresponding dose. Do not take the medicine after meals to make up for a missed dose.
Interaction: The risk of hypoglycemia increases when used with insulin, sulfonylureas, or meglitinides. Digestive enzyme preparations may reduce the therapeutic effect of voglibose.
Side effects: Common adverse reactions include flatulence, abdominal distension, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, constipation, and nausea. When combined with other antidiabetic agents, hypoglycemia may occur. Rare but serious adverse reactions include intestinal obstruction, severe hepatic dysfunction, jaundice, and hypersensitivity reactions.
