Description
Indication & Scope
VASOREL® is a prescription metabolic antianginal agent indicated as add-on therapy for the symptomatic treatment of adults with stable angina pectoris whose symptoms are inadequately controlled by, or who are intolerant to, first-line antianginal therapies. It is intended for long-term prevention of angina attacks and should not be used for acute angina or acute coronary syndrome. It may also be used in selected patients as supportive therapy for vertigo and tinnitus associated with inner ear ischemia, according to approved local labeling.
- Mechanism: Trimetazidine selectively inhibits long-chain 3-ketoacyl-CoA thiolase, shifting myocardial energy metabolism from fatty acid oxidation to glucose oxidation, thereby improving ATP production during ischemia without affecting heart rate or blood pressure.
- Drug class: Metabolic antianginal agent.
- Clinical use: Long-term management of stable angina in adults with insufficient response or intolerance to conventional antianginal therapy.
