hytrin terazosin hydrochloride tablet 2mg 28tablets per box

Description

 Indication & Scope

Hytrin® (Terazosin Hydrochloride Tablets) is a prescription selective α1-adrenergic receptor blocker indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension and for the symptomatic relief of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It improves urinary flow and reduces lower urinary tract symptoms while also lowering blood pressure through peripheral vasodilation.

  • Mechanism: Terazosin selectively blocks α1-adrenergic receptors in vascular smooth muscle, the prostate, and the bladder neck, resulting in vasodilation and relaxation of the lower urinary tract, thereby improving urinary symptoms and reducing blood pressure.
  • Drug Class: Selective α1-Adrenoceptor Blocker.
  • Clinical Use: Management of hypertension and lower urinary tract symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: For the treatment of hypertension, the recommended initial dose of Hytrin® (Terazosin Hydrochloride Tablets) is 1 mg once daily at bedtime. The dose may be gradually increased at weekly intervals according to the patient’s blood pressure response to a usual maintenance dose of 2–10 mg once daily, with a maximum recommended daily dose of 20 mg. For the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), the recommended starting dose is 1 mg once daily at bedtime for the first week, followed by a usual maintenance dose of 2 mg once daily at bedtime. If symptoms are not adequately controlled, the dose may be gradually increased to 5–10 mg daily as clinically indicated.

Time: Hytrin® should be taken once daily at bedtime, especially when starting treatment, restarting therapy after an interruption, or increasing the dose, to reduce the risk of first-dose hypotension, dizziness, or fainting. Taking the medicine at the same time each day is recommended to maintain consistent therapeutic effects.

Instructions for use: Take Hytrin® orally with or without food, swallowing the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without consulting your healthcare provider. If treatment has been interrupted for several days, therapy should be restarted at the initial 1 mg dose. Patients should rise slowly from sitting or lying positions, particularly after the first dose, to minimize the risk of orthostatic hypotension.

Interaction: Hytrin® may enhance the blood pressure-lowering effects of other antihypertensive agents, diuretics, calcium channel blockers, β-blockers, and phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors such as sildenafil or tadalafil, increasing the risk of symptomatic hypotension. Concomitant use requires caution and appropriate blood pressure monitoring. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may slightly reduce its antihypertensive effect.

Side effects: The most commonly reported adverse reactions include dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, headache, fatigue, palpitations, nausea, nasal congestion, drowsiness, blurred vision, and peripheral edema. These effects are generally mild and tend to diminish with continued treatment. Syncope (fainting) may occur rarely, particularly after the first dose, rapid dose escalation, or sudden changes in posture. Patients experiencing severe dizziness, fainting, or persistent symptoms should seek medical attention promptly.

FAQ

What is Hytrin® used for?

Hytrin® is used to lower blood pressure and to relieve urinary symptoms associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), including urinary frequency, urgency, weak urinary stream, and nocturia.

Why should the first dose be taken at bedtime?

The first dose may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure (first-dose phenomenon), leading to dizziness or fainting. Taking it at bedtime helps reduce this risk.

Can I stop taking Hytrin® and restart later?

If treatment has been interrupted for several days, therapy should be restarted at 1 mg once daily, with gradual dose titration as recommended by your healthcare provider.

Can Hytrin® (Terazosin Hydrochloride Tablets) be taken with erectile dysfunction medicines?

Use caution. Taking Hytrin® (Terazosin Hydrochloride Tablets) together with PDE5 inhibitors (such as sildenafil or tadalafil) may significantly lower blood pressure. Consult your healthcare provider before combining these medicines.
