Insulin icodec Injection improves glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

  • Mechanism: Ultra-long acting basal insulin analog with fatty acid side chain modification, binds to albumin in peripheral circulation to achieve steady 7-day sustained insulin release. Regulates hepatic glucose output and peripheral glucose uptake to lower fasting blood glucose.
  • Drug class: Long-acting human insulin analog, anti-diabetic endocrine agent.
  • Clinical use: Once-weekly basal insulin therapy for glycemic management in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Subcutaneously once weekly, titrate weekly based on fasting blood glucose levels to target glycemic goals.

 

Time: Fixed same day and same time once every 7 days, subcutaneous injection into abdomen, thigh or upper arm.

 

Instructions for use:

1. Rotate injection sites to prevent lipohypertrophy.

2. Monitor fasting blood glucose to adjust weekly dosage.

3. Educate patients on hypoglycemia recognition and emergency treatment.

4. Do not mix with other insulin formulations in the same injection pen.

 

Interaction:

1. Sulfonylureas, SGLT-2 inhibitors increase hypoglycemia risk.

2. Corticosteroids, beta-agonists elevate blood glucose and reduce insulin efficacy.

3. Beta-blockers mask hypoglycemia warning symptoms.

 

Side effects:

1. Common: Hypoglycemia, injection site reactions, weight gain, lipohypertrophy
2. Severe: Severe anaphylactic hypersensitivity, severe prolonged hypoglycemia, peripheral edema
