 Indication & Scope

Ceftriaxone Sodium for Injection is a prescription third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, biliary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, septicemia, and bacterial meningitis.

  • Mechanism: Ceftriaxone inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), resulting in bacterial cell lysis and death.
  • Drug class: Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic.
  • Clinical use: Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, surgical prophylaxis, bacterial meningitis, septicemia, and uncomplicated gonorrhea.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Adults: 0.5–1 g once daily by IM injection or IV infusion; severe infections may require 2–4 g/day according to clinical condition.

 

Time: Administer once daily.

 

Instructions for use: Reconstitute before use. Do not mix or administer with calcium-containing solutions. Adjust dosage in severe hepatic and renal impairment.

 

Interaction: Calcium-containing IV solutions are contraindicated. Warfarin may increase bleeding risk. Chloramphenicol may reduce antibacterial activity.

 

Side effects: Common adverse reactions include diarrhea, nausea, rash, injection-site pain, eosinophilia, elevated liver enzymes, hypersensitivity reactions, biliary sludge, and rare severe allergic reactions.
