Cardura XL® (Doxazosin Mesylate Extended Release Tablets) is a prescription selective α1-adrenergic receptor blocker indicated for the symptomatic treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and the management of hypertension. It helps improve urinary symptoms associated with BPH while lowering blood pressure through vascular smooth muscle relaxation.
- Mechanism: Doxazosin selectively blocks α1-adrenergic receptors in the prostate, bladder neck, and peripheral blood vessels, reducing urinary outflow obstruction and decreasing peripheral vascular resistance.
- Drug Class: Selective α1-Adrenoceptor Blocker.
- Clinical Use: Treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms caused by BPH and blood pressure control in patients with hypertension.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: Take 4 mg once daily, swallowed whole with water. The tablet should be taken at approximately the same time each day, with or without food.
Time: Do not crush, chew, or split the extended-release tablet. The empty tablet shell may appear in the stool after the medicine has been released; this is normal.
Instructions for use: Renal impairment: No routine dose adjustment required. Mild hepatic impairment: Use with caution. Moderate to severe hepatic impairment: Use is generally not recommended without specialist supervision. Elderly patients: Usually no dosage adjustment is required, but monitor for orthostatic hypotension.
Interaction: Use caution when combined with other antihypertensive agents, nitrates, or PDE5 inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil or tadalafil) because of an increased risk of symptomatic hypotension. Concurrent use with other α-blockers is generally not recommended.
Side effects: Common adverse reactions include dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, headache, fatigue, peripheral edema, nasal congestion, and palpitations. Seek immediate medical attention if fainting, severe hypotension, prolonged painful erection (priapism), serious allergic reactions, or cardiac rhythm abnormalities occur.
