 Indication & Scope

ShiFuSu® is a prescription third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, biliary tract infections, gonococcal urethritis, otitis media, sinusitis, and scarlet fever caused by susceptible organisms.

  • Mechanism: Cefixime inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), resulting in bacterial cell death.
  • Drug class: Third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic.
  • Clinical use: Treatment of infections caused by susceptible organisms including Streptococcus spp. (excluding enterococci), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Haemophilus influenzae, and other susceptible bacteria.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Cefixime dispersible tablets are administered orally and may be swallowed whole or dispersed in water before administration. Adults and children weighing 30 kg or more usually receive 100 mg twice daily, while severe infections may require 200 mg twice daily. Children weighing less than 30 kg are generally treated with 1.5–3 mg/kg/day in two divided doses, with up to 6 mg/kg/day for severe infections. Treatment usually lasts 7–14 days, and dose adjustment is recommended in patients with severe renal impairment.

 

Time: Administer twice daily at approximately 12-hour intervals. It may be taken with or without food.

 

Instructions for use: Complete the full course of therapy even if symptoms improve. The tablet may be dispersed in a small amount of water before administration. Renal function should be monitored in patients with impaired kidney function.

 

Interaction: Probenecid may increase cefixime concentrations. Warfarin may enhance the anticoagulant effect and requires monitoring. Separate administration from probiotic preparations by at least 2 hours.

 

Side effects: Common adverse reactions include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, rash, and headache. Serious adverse reactions may include hypersensitivity reactions, Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea, renal impairment, and hematologic abnormalities.
