Description
Indication & Scope
Heptodin® Lamivudine Tablets provides long-term antiviral therapy for adult chronic hepatitis B with active HBV replication and elevated liver enzymes; combination antiretroviral therapy for HIV-1 infection in adults and children.
- Mechanism: A synthetic nucleoside reverse transcriptase analog. After intracellular phosphorylation, it competes with natural cytidine to incorporate into viral DNA strands, terminating DNA chain elongation and blocking replication of HBV and HIV-1. Long-term monotherapy easily induces viral gene mutation and drug resistance.
- Drug class: Nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor; broad-spectrum antiviral agent for HBV and HIV; prescription anti-retroviral medicine.
- Clinical use: Long-term suppression of HBV replication to reduce liver inflammation and slow fibrosis for chronic hepatitis B; used as a core component of multi-drug combination regimens for HIV infection control to lower viral load.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: For chronic hepatitis B: 100 mg once daily for adults with normal renal function. For HIV-1 infection: 150 mg twice daily. Dosage reduction is required for patients with renal insufficiency.
Time: Fixed daily dosing intervals; administration can be performed with or without meals with no strict dietary limits.
Instructions for use: Swallow whole tablets without splitting or chewing; arbitrary early discontinuation will cause sharp viral rebound and drug resistance; regular monitoring of HBV DNA, liver function and renal function is required throughout treatment; monotherapy for long-term HBV treatment is not recommended.
Interaction: Other renally excreted antiviral drugs will affect renal clearance and require dosage adjustment; combined use with zalcitabine increases peripheral neuropathy risk; drugs inhibiting renal tubular secretion will raise blood concentration of lamivudine.
Side effects:
1. Common mild adverse reactions: headache, fatigue, mild nausea, diarrhea, transient elevated liver transaminase.
2. Rare severe adverse reactions: lactic acidosis, severe hepatomegaly with steatosis, pancreatitis, peripheral neuropathy, severe allergic reactions.

FAQ
What two infectious diseases can be treated with Lamivudine Tablets under different fixed dosage standards?
The preparation is approved for chronic hepatitis B and HIV-1 infection, with completely different daily dosage regimens for each disease.
Why is long-term single-drug use of Lamivudine Tablets strongly discouraged for chronic hepatitis B antiviral treatment?
Long-term monotherapy easily triggers HBV gene mutation, leading to high drug resistance rate, viral rebound and treatment failure.
What dosage difference exists between Lamivudine Tablets for hepatitis B and Lamivudine Tablets used in HIV combination therapy?
100 mg once daily for chronic hepatitis B, while 150 mg twice daily is required for HIV combination treatment.
What negative consequence will be caused by arbitrary stopping of Lamivudine Tablets long-term antiviral therapy for hepatitis B?
Sudden discontinuation leads to rapid rebound of HBV viral load, aggravated liver inflammation and accelerated generation of resistant viral strains.
