Description

 Indication & Scope

Doxofylline Injection relieve dyspnea caused by bronchospasm from bronchial asthma, chronic asthmatic bronchitis and other airway spasm disorders.

  • Mechanism: A methylxanthine derivative that inhibits intracellular phosphodiesterase to raise cAMP levels, directly relaxing bronchial smooth muscle, reducing airway spasm and mild airway inflammation. It has weaker central excitation than theophylline.
  • Drug class: Methylxanthine bronchodilator, anti-asthmatic agent.
  • Clinical use: Short-term intravenous treatment for moderate dyspnea from bronchospasm when oral or inhaled medicines fail to control symptoms.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: 200mg for slow IV injection every 12 hours after dilution; 300mg once daily for IV infusion; course lasts 5–10 days.

 

Time: IV injection at 12-hour intervals; IV infusion once daily at a fixed time.

 

Instructions for use: Dilute with glucose injection before IV injection, inject slowly over more than 20 minutes; infuse slowly over 45+ minutes; monitor blood drug concentration during long courses.

 

Interaction: Forbidden to combine with other xanthine drugs; caution with ephedrine and sympathomimetic agents; avoid heavy caffeine intake.

 

Side effects:

1. Common: nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache, insomnia, mild tachycardia.

2. Severe overdose: arrhythmia, convulsions, high blood sugar.
