Indication & Scope

Cravit® is a prescription fluoroquinolone antibacterial indicated for the treatment of susceptible bacterial infections, including hospital-acquired pneumonia, community-acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, complicated skin and skin-structure infections, chronic bacterial prostatitis, complicated urinary tract infections, acute pyelonephritis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and post-exposure inhalational anthrax. Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby interfering with bacterial DNA replication and transcription.

Mechanism: Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II) and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication and repair.
Drug class: Fluoroquinolone antibacterial.
Clinical use: Treatment of susceptible bacterial infections in adults according to the approved indication and dosing regimen.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Adults generally take 100 mg orally 2–3 times daily; dosage and duration should be adjusted according to the infection and clinical severity. For post-exposure inhalational anthrax, the adult dose is 500 mg once daily for 60 days.

Time: May be taken with or without food.

Instructions for use: Take orally as prescribed. Keep aluminum-, magnesium-containing antacids, sucralfate, iron, zinc, and other metal-cation preparations at least 2 hours apart from levofloxacin.

Interaction: Coadministration with antacids, sucralfate, iron or zinc may reduce absorption. Caution is required with NSAIDs, warfarin, theophylline, and antidiabetic agents.

Side effects: Common reactions include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, headache, dizziness, and insomnia. Serious reactions may include tendinitis/tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, CNS effects, QT prolongation, severe hypersensitivity reactions, and blood-glucose disturbances.
