AstraZeneca’s Tezepelumab Approved in China for Severe Asthma and CRSwNP

On March 27, 2026, AstraZeneca announced tezepelumab injection (Tezspire®) received full NMPA approval in China for maintenance treatment of severe asthma in adults and adolescents ≥12 years, and for chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) in adults in combination with intranasal corticosteroids.
Tezepelumab is the first and only approved biologic targeting TSLP (thymic stromal lymphopoietin), acting upstream in the inflammatory cascade to block multiple cytokines, independent of patient phenotype or biomarkers, broadening eligibility.
Phase III DIRECTION (asthma) and WAYPOINT (nasal polyps) trials demonstrated rapid, sustained symptom improvement, reduced asthma exacerbations and polyp recurrence, with a favorable safety profile. The dual‑indication approval brings a new precision therapy option for Chinese patients with respiratory inflammatory diseases.
