Symbicort Turbuhaler® Budesonide and Formoterol Fumarate Powder for Inhalation (II) provides long-term maintenance treatment of asthma; maintenance therapy for stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with repeated exacerbations.

  • Mechanism: Budesonide is an inhaled corticosteroid inhibiting airway inflammation; formoterol is a long-acting β2 agonist that dilates bronchial smooth muscle rapidly and sustainably. Combined anti-inflammation + bronchodilation.
  • Drug class: Fixed combination of inhaled corticosteroid + long-acting β2 agonist (LABA).
  • Clinical use: Daily control of persistent asthma; maintenance treatment for moderate-severe COPD.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: 1 inhalation twice daily for asthma and COPD maintenance.

 

Time: Morning and evening, twice daily at fixed intervals.

 

Instructions for use: Load the dose, exhale completely away from the inhaler, inhale deeply and hold breath for 10 seconds, rinse mouth with water after each use to prevent thrush.

 

Interaction: Beta-blockers counteract bronchodilator effects; CYP3A4 inhibitors slightly increase budesonide systemic absorption.

 

Side effects:

1. Common: throat irritation, hoarseness, oral candidiasis, palpitations, hand tremor (mild and transient).

2. Rare: headache, muscle cramp.
