Description

 Indication & Scope

Mepem®/ShuLuoKe® is a prescription carbapenem antibiotic indicated for the treatment of susceptible moderate to severe bacterial infections in adults and children aged 3 months and older. It is also indicated for empirical therapy in febrile neutropenia in adults.

  • Mechanism: Meropenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), resulting in rapid bactericidal activity against susceptible Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria.
  • Drug class: Carbapenem β-lactam antibiotic.
  • Clinical use: Treatment of severe pneumonia, complicated urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, gynecological infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bacterial meningitis, septicemia, and empirical treatment of febrile neutropenia.

How to use ?

Recommended Dose: Adults: 0.5–1 g IV every 8 hours; up to 2 g every 8 hours for bacterial meningitis. Adjust the dose in patients with renal impairment.

 

Time: Administer by intravenous injection (about 5 minutes) or intravenous infusion (15–30 minutes) every 8 hours.

 

Instructions for use: For intravenous use only. Reconstitute before administration and use promptly. Complete the prescribed treatment course even if symptoms improve.

 

Interaction: Avoid concomitant use with valproic acid/divalproex sodium. Probenecid may increase meropenem exposure. Monitor INR when used with warfarin.

 

Side effects: Common adverse reactions include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, rash, injection-site reactions, and elevated liver enzymes. Serious adverse reactions include hypersensitivity reactions, seizures, Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea, and severe skin reactions.
