Description
Indication & Scope
Duphaston® is a prescription oral progestogen indicated for the treatment of conditions associated with endogenous progesterone deficiency, including dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, secondary amenorrhea, irregular menstrual cycles, dysfunctional uterine bleeding, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), threatened miscarriage, recurrent miscarriage due to progesterone deficiency, and infertility caused by luteal insufficiency.
- Mechanism: Dydrogesterone is a selective oral progestogen that closely resembles natural progesterone. It transforms the endometrium into the secretory phase, supports implantation and early pregnancy, stabilizes uterine function, and helps regulate the menstrual cycle without androgenic or estrogenic activity.
- Drug Class: Oral progestogen (progestin).
- Clinical Use: Hormonal treatment for progesterone deficiency–related gynecological disorders and pregnancy support.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: Dosage depends on the indication. Common regimens include 10 mg once or twice daily, with the treatment schedule determined by the specific condition and menstrual cycle. For threatened or recurrent miscarriage, treatment should be initiated and adjusted under medical supervision.
Time: May be taken with or without food. Take the tablets at the same time each day to maintain consistent hormone levels.
Instructions for use: Swallow the tablets whole with water. Continue treatment exactly as prescribed and do not discontinue therapy without consulting your healthcare provider, particularly during pregnancy support.
Interaction: Hepatic enzyme inducers (such as rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, and St. John’s Wort) may reduce the effectiveness of dydrogesterone. When used as part of hormone replacement therapy, it should be administered together with estrogen according to the prescribed regimen.
Side effects: Common adverse reactions include breakthrough bleeding, breast tenderness, headache, nausea, fatigue, mood changes, and dizziness. Less common effects include edema, abdominal pain, skin rash, and weight changes. Rare but serious reactions include thromboembolic events, severe liver dysfunction, and meningioma, requiring immediate medical attention.
