How to use ?

Recommended Dose: For children ≥1 year: 1 soft capsule orally once daily.

Time: Once daily; a specific time of day is generally not required. Take consistently according to the product instructions.

Instructions for use: Open the soft-capsule/drop tip and squeeze the contents into the child’s mouth. The manufacturer’s instructions describe softening the tip by immersing it in boiling water for about 30 seconds before opening. The capsule may also be chewed directly where appropriate.

Interaction: Potential interactions include oral contraceptives increasing plasma vitamin A; vitamin E can alter vitamin A absorption/storage; cholestyramine, mineral oil, neomycin and sucralfate can reduce vitamin A absorption; antacids containing aluminum may affect absorption. Concurrent calcium/magnesium preparations may increase the risk of hypercalcemia/hypermagnesemia and should be discussed with a clinician.

Side effects: Long-term or excessive dosing can cause chronic vitamin toxicity. Reported early manifestations include bone/joint pain or swelling, itching, dry/cracked lips, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, constipation or diarrhea. Do not exceed the recommended dose.

FAQ

What is this medicine used for?

It supplies vitamins A and D and is indicated for prevention and treatment of deficiencies, including deficiency-related rickets and night blindness.

How many capsules should a child take?

For the 1-year-and-older 2,000 IU/700 IU formulation shown, the recommended dose is 1 capsule once daily.

Can it be taken together with another vitamin D or vitamin A supplement?

Care is needed because taking multiple vitamin A/D products can result in excessive intake. Do not combine them routinely without advice from a doctor or pharmacist.

What should I do if too much is taken?

Stop further dosing and seek medical advice, particularly if a large amount was taken or symptoms such as persistent vomiting, headache, unusual bone/joint pain, itching, or other signs of toxicity occur.
