Indication & Scope
A single-dose inhalation solution containing ambroxol hydrochloride, a mucoactive respiratory medicine used to facilitate clearance of thick bronchial secretions. The product is supplied in brown glass ampoules and is intended for administration using a nebulizer; it is not for oral or injectable use.
- Mechanism:
Ambroxol promotes mucociliary clearance by modifying airway secretions, stimulating surfactant secretion and enhancing ciliary activity. These effects help reduce mucus viscosity/adhesion and facilitate movement and expectoration of bronchial mucus. The precise mechanism is not completely established. - Drug class:
Mucoactive agent / mucolytic and secretolytic expectorant; ATC R05CB06 (Ambroxol). - Clinical use:
Adjunctive symptomatic treatment of respiratory conditions characterized by thick or difficult-to-expectorate secretions, particularly acute and chronic bronchitis and pneumonia.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose:
- Adults and children ≥12 years: 2–3 mL per administration, inhaled 1–2 times daily; equivalent to 15–45 mg/day.
- Children 2–12 years: 2 mL per administration, inhaled 1–2 times daily; 15–30 mg/day.
- Children 6 months–2 years: 1 mL per administration, inhaled 1–2 times daily; 7.5–15 mg/day.
- The manufacturer’s recommended treatment period is 7 days, with duration adjustable according to the patient’s symptoms and physician advice.
Time: 1–2 inhalation treatments per day, according to the age-specific dose above.
Instructions for use:
- Use only with a nebulizer; do not swallow or inject.
- The manufacturer instructs that the solution should be mixed 1:1 with 0.9% sodium chloride injection for optimal humidification.
- Open a new single-dose ampoule immediately before each treatment. The product contains no preservative. Discard partially used, opened or damaged ampoules.
- Place the prescribed amount in the nebulizer and administer according to the nebulizer manufacturer’s instructions.
- After treatment, discard remaining solution and clean the nebulizer.
Interaction: The product may be mixed with β-sympathomimetic medicines and inhaled ipratropium bromide solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions, but should not be mixed with sodium cromoglycate. Avoid mixing with medicines that raise the resulting solution’s pH above 6.3. Concomitant antitussives should be considered carefully because suppression of the cough reflex can increase the risk of retained secretions. Ambroxol may increase concentrations of some antibiotics in bronchopulmonary secretions, including erythromycin, cefalexin, tetracycline, amoxicillin, cefuroxime and doxycycline.
Side effects:
- Common: taste disturbance, nausea, oral/throat numbness.
- Uncommon: vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, dry mouth, fever and mucosal reactions.
- Rare: hypersensitivity, rash, urticaria, dry throat and dysuria.
- Very rare/unknown: dyspnea, bronchospasm and severe cutaneous reactions, including Stevens–Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis and AGEP.
