Indication & Scope
Caltrate® is an over-the-counter calcium and vitamin D₃ supplement indicated for calcium supplementation in children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, postmenopausal women, and older adults, and to help prevent and treat osteoporosis.
- Mechanism: Calcium carbonate supplies elemental calcium to support bone mineralization, while vitamin D₃ enhances intestinal calcium absorption and utilization, helping maintain bone strength and calcium homeostasis.
- Drug class: Calcium and vitamin D supplement.

How to use ?
Recommended Dose: Adults: Chew 2 tablets once or twice daily. Children: Chew 1 tablet once or twice daily.
Time: Take after meals or as directed by a healthcare professional.
Instructions for use: Chew the tablets thoroughly before swallowing. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Avoid taking other calcium supplements unless advised by a healthcare professional.
Interaction: Calcium may decrease the absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, levothyroxine, iron preparations, and bisphosphonates. Separate administration by at least 2 hours.
Side effects: Common adverse reactions include belching and constipation. Excessive intake may cause hypercalcemia and, rarely, milk-alkali syndrome.
